GCL celebrates National Garden Week

National Garden Week was started in 1986 by President Ronald    Reagon with Proclamation 5462 to honor the American gardener. To quote the proclamation:

"Gardening is a wholesome avocation that encourages                  appreciation for nature and concern for preservation and          enchancement  of our environment.  It prompts a genuine         respect for those who work in agriculture today.   Gardening,   above all provides a special source of fulfillment when
foresight, patience and collaboration with soil and sunlight        finally  are repaid  by lovely flowers and luscious harvests"

More and more people are turning to their gardens to help         them survive.

Celebrate National Garden Week, June 7-13 by planting               something that will beautify, help the environment or add          something to your table.

The Garden Club of the Lakes will have exhibits all week long at both Melrose and Keystone Heights Library and the Clay County tax collector's office .  The city of Keystone Heights will have a  display at city Hall.  There will also be flyers available at            businessses in the downtown area.  On Saturday, June 13th,      from 9:30 am to 2 pm, there will be a bake sale and membership drive for the Garden Club of the Lakes at Ace Hardware.
