Nominated by Barbara Strube, the Garden Club of the Lakes, Inc. FFGC has chosen Jeff and Becky Davis of Oak Drive in Keystone Heights for July “Yard of the Month.”
Jeff and Becky’s home is surrounded by redtip (shrubs) with silver horn on the street side. Pink crepe myrtles with Japanese plum trees flank both sides of the front yard. Closer to the house caladium of pink, red, and white and Aztec grass brighten up a shady area.
Sago palms given to Becky from her moms plant as pups are scattered throughout the yard as is Washingtonian palms, magnolias, dogwoods (started from cuttings off Jeff’s moms tree) turkey oaks, kumquat, tangerine, and key lime trees. Opening the gate to the backyard, you get a faint whiff of night blooming jasmine. Beauty abounds in the backyard. Upon entering an island of red and yellow cannas, mallow, Mexican petunias, coral and soft pink gladiolas, ginger, and plumbago greet you.
This oasis with pool, cabana, and bar is the perfect relaxation spot after mowing or weeding around the bird of paradise, moss roses, pentas, geraniums, plumbago, and fire spikes. A brown turkey fig, a perfect specimen is filled with gigs and a vegetable garden of okra, tomatoes, eggplant, cucumber and beans are just some of the plants to see in this yard.
